The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Could Fix That

Whenever a significant awards ceremony nears, there’s always an outcry for introducing fresh award types to recognize overlooked contributions and satisfy the passions of fans who have specialized interests.

My colleague has already made for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. So would board games, representing someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize just as with other blinkered fanatics, I possess a compelling case supporting my request remains most pressing and significant. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and it will always spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason film award organizations avoid this approach. Yet it remains an essential concession in the world of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.

Present Award Structure

Leading game ceremonies currently feature genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these classifications successfully include many game types, making space possible for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: structural challenges in a particular game, intense tile-matching of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. Which classification works between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.

The Representation Problem

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers released every year without proper recognition in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition completely in 2014
  • Another creative title received no nominations during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked that year
  • Just some puzzle games barely qualified for independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

These are often compact experiences, however the design of the puzzle game carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles stand as the most-played games globally continuing this trend for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game rivals famous sandbox experiences claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and engaging across multiple categories.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. You could fill five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

To emphasize again, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers are working at the demanding boundary of video game design, producing among most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Just like cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
